The Architecture of International House Sydney

Jonathan Evans
Tzannes, Sydney

Now complete at Barangaroo South, International House Sydney is the first modern commercial engineering timber building of its size and type in Australia. The building makes extensive use of structural engineered timber and recycled hardwood timber. The architects have turned the structural limitations imposed by timber into advantages, forming a unique colonnade form evocative of a forest of trees, giving the building its distinctive character. The result is a dynamic architectural expression, forming a critical street edge and undercover pedestrian network.
