Castle Hill's Changing Urban Density – Castle Towers Expansion

Joe Catanzariti
Director - Eastern Region
BG&E, Sydney

The AU$8.3 billion Sydney Metro Northwest Project is the first stage of Australia’s biggest public transport project. Castle Towers is a super-regional shopping center located in the heart of the project’s alignment at Castle Hill in Sydney’s Northwest. It is undergoing a significant repositioning to take advantage of the changing urban density and market conditions in the region, while also addressing increased consumer sophistication.

Set adjacent to the new Castle Hill metro station, the project comprises a significant redevelopment to an existing center that will transform the station precinct and surrounding town center into a dense strategic center within Greater Sydney. The site provides significant above- and below-ground constraints, being positioned between the new station box, existing town center, arterial roads, and the metro tunnels that extend under a significant portion of the development. The project will include extensive allowances for high-rise developments located above the center, to enable increased densification into the future.
