Urban planning is moving into a world of supertall, slender, and interconnected buildings with the objective of maximizing net floor areas. This presentation introduced a brand new steel product called Web Tailor-Made (WTM) shapes that is scheduled for the end of 2017.
This product may look like a thick, narrow, and flat product with its maximal dimensions limited to only 1,000-by-100-millimeters-thick, but it has something particularly unique: it is produced by a world-renowned quenching and self-tempering process.
For the first time in 25 years, another steel product is fully compatible with Jumbo shapes in HISTAR and ASTM A913 grades 345 and 450 MPa, meaning that they exhibit the same outstanding weldability without preheating at room temperature. This presentation explained how the combination of WTM and Jumbos gives engineers the maximum choice to optimize columns, trusses, girders by strength and stiffness, thus achieving the most effective cross section possible with optimal constructability and safety.
